Martin K. Bulinya was born on July 21, 1961 in a village called Moiben near Eldoret, Kenya.  Encouraged by his older brothers, Bulinya began drawing in charcoal and pencil as a young boy.  He studied at the design department of the University of Nairobi, and has since exhibited his paintings and drawings in Nairobi, Kenya.   Bulinya has worked as freelance illustrator for the Kenya Times and True Love magazine, as well as working for the Kenya Broadcasting Cooperation (KBC) as stage and scene designer.

Bulinya is a very prolific artist who usually paints caricatures of the Maasai people.  He uses vibrant colors in broad brush strokes in his earlier paintings.  In his latest work, he paints with fine brushes in minute details.  The vivid details of his works illustrate the fine costumes of Maasai people along with their lives.   He makes his art affordable by using hardboard.
